MAPSS Fall Field Day: Soil Morphology and Land Use Evaluation on the Upper Delmarva

Land use interpretations are based on soil morphology – the physical characteristics and properties of the soil that can be seen or felt. This field-based training will be an opportunity for participants to view and describe Coastal Plain soils of the Delmarva. We will discuss how soil morphology is interpreted and used in evaluations of suitability for various land uses, including agriculture, stormwater, wastewater disposal, and wetlands. Registration includes lunch. CEUs will be available. REGISTER BY OCT 9.

MAPSS Annual Business Meeting

The MAPSS Annual Business meeting and dinner has been scheduled for Wednesday February 27, 2019 at the American Legion Hall in Annapolis (north of Rt 50). 

Please RSVP to Jenwei Tsai at Jenwei.Tsai@delaware.gov by February 22, 2019 so we can get a head count for the dinner. 

 Current President Bruce Bagley will preside over the meeting.  See draft agenda below.  This year the presentation will be on Soil Health.  President-Elect Annie Rossi will be discussing some exciting ideas for workshop and events for 2019.  We’ll also present the Roy W. Simonson Memorial Scholarship. 

The cost of the dinner is $25 per member and free to student members.  The cost helps to pay for the hall rental and food.  You can bring your dues and be settled up for 2019 (attached is the 2019 Dues Notice for any changes).  If you can’t make it, please click here for dues notice for payment.  We’re also set up for PayPal.  If you wish to pay via PayPal, please contact Jenwei Tsai at Jenwei.Tsai@delaware.gov

Fostering collaboration with other North American Soil Science Societies, The Soil Science Society of America will host scientists, professionals, educators, and students at the SSSA International Soils Meeting. "Soils Across Latitudes" will be held Jan. 6-9, 2019, in San Diego, California in collaboration with the Canadian Society of Soil Science and the Mexican Society of Soil Science.
